21St Birthday Lines

November 19, 2009 marks what would have been his 100th birthday of Peter Drucker. For those wondering who he was, Peter Drucker was the "patriarch" of current business management thinking, and books fill the library of anyone acute business minds of the organization. He was also an excellent predictor of what to come Nostradamus style.

In 1988, when the likes of IBM, General Electric and General Motors were the "Blue Chips" were thriving in the century 20 the management of thought, Peter Drucker was busy writing about the "Coming of the new organization" (HBR January / February 1988) - recognizing that the "information age" was at our doors, and change the way businesses and large enterprises operated. Nobody really listened to that time, except the most prepared of companies seeking a long term benefit of sustainability.

Then the information era was shot in, along with economic problems, problems of leadership and ethics, which significantly the first 10 years of the 21st century.

Check out what Drucker predicted:

 • Prediction: Organizations must be based on the information. Today: knowledge systems and IT infrastructure are critical to business today.

 • Prediction: The levels of management would be significantly diminished. Today: The organizations now speak of being "flat" - Referring to the organizational hierarchy.

 • Prediction: Organizations will be met with specialists at the bottom. Today: organizations have specialists in all levels of the company, and sometimes there is no "bottom".

 • Prediction: The making decision would be decentralized. Today, the word "empowerment" has become much more than the rhetoric of management. Employees at all levels are given authority to make decisions, that is to help build trust between management and staff.

 • Prediction: the flow of knowledge would be from the bottom up. Today: management is mainly based on information from the front lines ... rather than pushing their own knowledge to low

 • Prediction: traditional functional departments would be replaced by teams. Today: More than ever, companies are taking a "high-performance team" approach, where cross-functional teams have eliminated the traditional "silo" mentality and improving communication, innovation, and efficiency of workers.

In retrospect, I really Drucker predicted that the modern "day of high performance" organization should be. Happy 100th birthday, Peter Drucker, the business world misses you and his predictions of things to come.

21st birthday cake ideas?

this is my dilemma, my friend has his 21st birthday party on Saturday and I am ridiculously broke, no joke. I came to a conclusion, I will bake her cake. I can afford cake mix and frosting, but not a new pan with a character or something. So what we have now is a small / medium round baking pan rectangular pan and a large pot. What creative things can I do with the glaze to reflect this milestone in your life. I was thinking something along the lines of a label of Jack Daniel's, as this is the place too. Any ideas or suggestions. I've never baked a cake for all, I am not concerned about the actual baking both as part of decoration, because I have no experience with glaze. Thaks guys.
