How To Become A Poker Player

Deposit $20-$50 online. Play some ring games, lose money to those stupid donks that call everything. Play a few sngs and play way too tight in the end to ever get first place. Go broke. Keep depositing small amounts and losing until you get lucky one night and build your $50 deposit into $900 and proceed to lose it to some donky that called your preflop raise with 33 and flopped a set on your aces. If these fish stop getting lucky you could do this for a living. Find a site on the internet with advice about agression and Bankroll Management. Ignore it. Deposit $100 and play $25NL because you're already good enough that you don't need 20 buyins. Post your bad beats on the forums and ask questions like, should I stop raising preflop and just wait to see what the flop brings? Make rediculous hero calls and remember them when they work and forget them when they don't. Lose more money. Online poker sucks, play at the card room. Put $100 down on the $1/$2 game and played scared. Win $30 or $40 and be proud of yourself. Try to repeat with more confidence and lose lots of money to loose donkys. Meet people and get into local tournaments. Learn how to play bad from people who've been doing it for years. Watch rounders and decide to read super/system. Skip to the NL chapter and skim thru it, feel like superman. Play way too loose agressive for the smaller games and get beat on by tighter players. Win a local tourney or two with all that newfound agression. Go back to the casino and play tight. You can't lose what you don't put in the middle. Watch your stack shrink with the rake or time payments. Think, "Gee, online had less rake, right?" Deposite another $100, you're serious this time, tight play and a bankroll. Buy into the $25nl game with $10. Lose it to a bad beat and rebuy full. Realize you just went broke again. Post online and ask what went wrong. Don't listen when they tell you about 20 buyins. You're better than that. Put another $200 online and play $50nl. The better players at this limit wont be calling with all that garbage. Fuck online. They're probably cheating anyway. Get back to the casino. Buy in for $200 this time, those guys online said deep stacked means more EVs or something. Double up early. You're killing these guys, order a jack straight up. Damn, lost it all to that tight guy with the aces. Hit the ATM, you can get it back, there's only one decent player at that table. A few drinks later, take your last $40 to the bar upstairs with the video poker and the free drinks... No more playing drunk, I'm serious this time. The guys online were right, it's not the other players, I'm fucking up on my own. Play more $1/$2 at the casino. Win a few sessions. Damn, this isn't much money, lemme check out that $2/$5 game. Go broke again. Good thing you have a job, I didn't when I went thru all this shit. It's the variance thing they were talking about. Why didn't doyle tell me about that in the book? Buy ToP and give up reading 3 pages in. Deposit another $100 to play $10nl with. Do what the guys online say, get tracking software. Go on monkey tilt and lose almost your whole roll. Go back and see what you did wrong. Decide to play with 20 buyins. Start learning to play poker. Become a player. 1) Realize that you suck. 2) Ask for help. 3) Listen to what other better individuals tell you. 3a) - Fuck the tone in which they say it with. Focus on the message/advice!!! 4) Absorb the information. 4a) - Latch onto the nuts of a better player if you can. 5) Think about the game on your own. 6) Study the game on your own. 7) Talk to others about what you studied. 8) Repeat #2 - #7 9) Realize #1 will always be true. 10) Profit. I have a friend who insists that the most fun you can have playing poker is when your rent money is on the table. I tell him that the most fun is actually paying your rent with money you won playing poker. So he says stuff like, "You know what I mean" and I say stuff like, "You don't know what I mean." I started writing this for him, but at some point I realized it's not going to help him.

Description

Apples to Apples is the wild, award-winning card game that provides instant fun for 4 to 10 players. Open the box, deal the cards, and you're ready to play! Select the card from your hand that you think is best described by a card played by the judge. If the judge picks your card, you win that round. Everyone gets a chance to be the judge.

Apples to Apples is an award-winning party game that will have everyone laughing. We had a blast playing this game and think it is a perfect game for a "board game night" with friends and family. It is quick to set up, easy to learn, challenging, and a whole lot of fun. .caption { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica neue, Arial, serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; } img.withlink {border:1px black solid;} ul.indent { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: -15px; } table.callout { font-family: verdana; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1. 3em; } td.think { height: 125px; background: #9DC4D8 url(http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/callout-bg.png) repeat-x; border-left: 1px solid #999999; border-right: 1px solid #999999; border-bottom: 1px dotted #000000; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 10px; width: 250px; } td.glance { height: 100%; background: #9DC4D8; border-left: 1px solid #999999; border-right: 1px solid #999999; padding-top: 10px; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 10px; width: 250px; } The party box includes over a thousand cards for many card combinations. View larger. Unexpected and funny comparisons make the game fun to come back to again and again. View larger. What We Think Fun Factor: Durability: (what this means) The Good: Quick set up; inspires quick thinking and creativity; fun for whole family The Bad: Not as fun without at least five players; subject matter targeted for mid-teens and older In a Nutshell: Quick-paced board game requires just a minute to set up and will have everyone laughing for hours At a Glance Ages: 12 and up Requires: At least four players Smart, Award-Winning Fun Apples to Apples has won numerous awards including "Party Game of the Year" by Games magazine and "Mensa Select" by Mensa International. And for good reason: it involves quick thinking, humor, and strategy. For teens, the game teaches them to think about how different things can be compared to one another and how analogies are formed. One of our criticisms is that although the game states that it is designed for ages 12 and older, many of the subjects are clearly for older teens. Hilarious Comparisons and Analogies The name of the game is a play on the phrase "apples to oranges," and the game is about making comparisons between different things. General game play is as follows: players are dealt red cards which have a noun printed on them, and the judge (a different player in each turn) draws a green card on which an adjective is printed and places it for all players to see. Each player then chooses a red card they are holding that they think best describes the green card. The judge then decides which adjective she likes best. The fun is in the variety of unexpected comparisons people make, sometimes apt, funny, creative, or simply absurd. For example: people might match "Awkward" with "Oil Spills," "My First Kiss," "Dandruff," and "Gold Chains. " Or: "Painful" with "High School Reunions" and "Regis Philben. " Strategy comes into play since, because each player takes turns being the judge, you begin to pick up on the preferences of each player and tailor your choices accordingly. Players can also try variations on the basic game play. For example, instead of choosing the most apt comparison, players might try choosing the red card that is least like the green one. These variations keep the game fresh and interesting every time. Conversation Kick Starter Part of the fun is in standing up for your choices. For instance, you might discuss why you think "Regis Philben" is painful, or segue into a discussion of the embarrassing situations you got into on your first day of school, or your first kiss. Apples to Apples excels as an ice breaker and promotes a good amount of social interaction, as many conversations will be kick started thanks to these little cards. More Players, More Fun Although the box states that the game is playable with just four players, we found that the game is a lot more fun when there are at least five or six players. This increases both the frequency of funny answers and also requires players to refine their strategy a little more. Once we got going, hours passed, and it was only the lateness of the hour that reminded some of us that we had to go home. This Party Box set comes with more than 1,000 cards total, and will entertain for a long time. Additional expansion sets are available to further increase the variety of word combinations. What's in the Box 756 Red Apple Cards, 252 Green Apple Cards, card tray, quick play rules.

  • Apples to Apples are the game of hilarious comparisons
  • It's as easy as comparing apples to apples... just open the box, deal the cards, and you're ready to play
  • Select the card from your hand that you think is best described by a card played by the judge

  • Each round is filled with surprising and outrageous comparisons from a wide range of people, places, things and events

Description

Swing For The Fence With Baseball's Greatest Legends! Journey back to baseball's Golden Era with Home Run Derby, the sport's ultimate power-hitting contest, featuring hall-of-famers such as Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Harmon Killebrew in the prime of their careers, slugging it out of the park for cash prizes and the honor of being named Home Run Derby Champion.

A fascinating spectacle from baseball history, Home Run Derby: Volume 1 is culled from a weekly, syndicated television program that was produced from 1959 to 1961 and pitted Major League Baseball sluggers against one another in a home-run duel. Essentially, one American League and one National League player would take turns at bat in Wrigley Field, where the Pacific Coast League's Los Angeles Angels regularly played. The hitter who sent the ball most often over the wall (at 340 or so feet) in nine "innings" would win a now-paltry-looking $2,000; the loser would get $1,000. Smaller cash incentives were there for the guys who got on a roll and whacked the ball out of sight three or more consecutive times. The charm of the show is in its simplicity, and the way it seems both relaxed and tense. Competing players such as Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Hank Aaron, and Jim Lemon were far too seasoned and professional to take the program seriously. On the other hand, when they're at bat, you can see something in their eyes: they get down to business and every swing is a mighty one. The best element in the show is player interviews (with host Mark Scott, seated at a desk not far from home plate) that take place while one or another fellow is trying to get some wood on the ball. Thus, it's really a pleasure to see Mantle serenely assess his own performance or admire that of Mays or Banks. The same is true of the latter pair, and also of Aaron and Lemon, who are so gentlemanly in their appreciation of one another and so humble about their own talents that their episode is actually moving. The four segments on Home Run Derby: Volume 1 are minor gems. --Tom Keogh

Description

Lose most games, it hurts your feelings. Lose THIS game, it REALLY hurts. Here's how Lightning Reaction works -- Anywhere from two to four people can play at once. You remove a handle from the base and get ready. When you press the button in the center, a red light pulses and suspenseful music plays. As soon as the red light turns green, you press the red trigger button as quickly as possible. If you're the slowest player, you will get rewarded with a painful electric shock. If you were faster than your opponents, you can simply laugh as the loser screams in pain. It sounds simple, but the suspense of waiting for the light to change is excruciating. You'll be tempted to press the trigger early... but don't! If you press it before the light changes, you get an electric shock and lose the game. This version let's you pick your level of shock, so even those extremely shock averse can have fun too!

Features

  • This shocking game puts a jolt in your party
  • Lightning Reaction Reloaded lets users pick the shock intensity
  • Select the number of challengers, then press the start button to bring on the lights and sound
  • When the sound stops and the light goes from RED to GREEN, press the button - fast
  • Perfect group paty game!

Description

For 2 or more players Go hog wild with the pig-tastic game, Pass the Pigs. Players attempt to rack up points by rolling the pig dice - but if they're not careful they might 'Pig Out' and lose all their points. Pass the Pigs is the sizzlin' fun, shakin' bacon game!

How's your tolerance for puns? You'll need some for Pass the Pigs, a simple game of chance built around a pig theme. Instead of dice, you roll two cute pink piglets, and you gain or lose points depending on how the critters land. For example, if both land on all fours, called a "double trotter," you get 20 points; if they land lying opposite each other, called a "Pig Out," you gain no points and cede your turn. There are a number of other rules as well as a variation called "Hog Call." This would be a good travel game (the pigs, instructions, and scoring pad fit in a small, tidy box) or a fine present for someone who's, well, into pigs! --Elisa Murray
