Mexican Drinking Game

U.S. 94 (Italy vs. Mexico)

Italy won by beating Norway 1-0, after I was pretty sure who had qualified for the next round, especially since even third-place teams could pass, or at least 4 of the 6 above could. Of course, there is always the possibility it could lose to Mexico, but doubted it would happen, as I thought if worse came to worse they tie and go as a team in third place. This of Indeed their place in the group after their second game.

The time had come to sit and enjoy the World Cup and by that I ie not only the games on television, but the World Cup atmosphere had been created for this tournament along with all the fans who literally around the world who had come to see. This plus the fact that summer had begun in the United States, gave a sense of real excitement of the World Cup added to the scene International and New York, was so famous. In a way, each group of fans, thanks to the way they held brought their country to America.

I, in the days after Italy's victory over Norway decided to explore the city of New York, feeling almost like a tourist in my hometown, and all the fans of all countries that had been classified and some of the countries that had not, but they were there simply to enjoy the games. There were fans in Norway and Sweden with Viking hats with horns including the sides, the characters remind me of Wagner's "The Ring" fans of Brazilian music with its yellow and green samba, Argentines always with large drums, Germans, Mexicans, and many others.

All that the world making this a great success, many of so-called "experts" had said it would not be given that the U.S. does not have a football tradition, and many other reasons. In all this, without But one thing was overlooked and that was that many Americans support the country of their parents or grandparents in some cases, like mine was to Italy, which was precisely what happened to keep large stadiums Lunches. As a matter of fact, the U.S. 94 set the record for the largest attendance at a World Cup and this despite not having either England or France qualify. This is also a record that still holds despite three World Cups have been played since, and which had 64 games in instead of "United 94", which played only 52.

I basically ran to absorb not only the sun for as long as Italy continued to match against Norway, but to meet some fans from other countries, look, and for a bar where I would watch games from Italy. After all, I wanted to see Italy play in the company of fellow Italians and have the means to follow across the country, which incidentally was the largest (and will be until it is China, Canada and Russia, which hosted the event) while host a World Cup with too much distance between the venues. As one might imagine would be the case when the games being played in cities as far apart as Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Orlando, and Chicago.

Italy will play their next game at Boston, which was not far, but I fear that it would not be able to get a ticket. This gives many Mexican fans, who were forced to buy up, so I figured to find a nice Italian bar with a large TV. I have considered many neighborhoods, but decided it was better to "Little Italy" in downtown Manhattan. After all, what better place to see "La Nazionale di calcio "then the place where Don Vito Corleone, raised, and even made his bones in.

It was after looking at many places I have come to settle in "Bar Napoli", a nice place on Mulberry Street, just around the corner, although not remember the name of another street. Little Italy, also where I can think of to run in three very nice ladies, which I mistook for Italians. This given the colors, green, white and red that were in them and the fact that one of them was a natural blonde. In fact, it turned out that these three young women were from Mexico, which also has the same colors in its flag, but despite this, were involved in a big gulp and conversation at the bar of Naples, which included me taking pictures of them with their flag and taking account the four of us together. Naturally, I say it Mexico felt it beat Italy, while Mexico and I wished them the best of luck against any team to be met, except in Italy. In a way, was strange because I had never met the Mexicans before and suddenly, only a few days before the Italy game against them, they seemed to everywhere, even more than the Irish. I also remember telling one, who was married to a Polish friend of mine that Italy would win 2-0, while he me said I was just dreaming.

The atmosphere was great, in the city and one that I knew would probably never come back or at least not in my life, so I tried everything I could to get everything and that's exactly what I did. Watching games especially in bars, even if he did not care who won or lost. As was the need to watch people celebrate and enjoy the good times, but mine was only when Italy played.

Game Day against Mexico came and I was sure Italy will qualify, which led me to be relaxed while waiting in a busy bar Napoli for the game to start. However, the atmosphere was tense in this rather small place, and when I sat in a chair drinking ice coffee, I started a conversation with a fellow Italian defender or at least judging by the Italy shirt he wore. John was his name and as I was Italian in America But, unlike me who could not speak up in three words of Italian, but it did not matter because he and his dark-skinned friend of Costa Rica were behind Italy until the end. Indeed Juan girlfriend, Gabriela (as I recall) was born in Costa Rica, but spent most of his life in the states of which meant that, as John does not speak the language of their ancestors who, in his case was the Spanish. This I learned as I tried to talk to her in Spanish, with Italian as John acknowledged what he was talking, but could not understand.

I for my part, that day I had my AC Milan shirt, wanting to show support not only to Italy but I was a kite. As the game was a scrappy, I have followed, but surely that Italy would withdraw through which, in fact what happened in the score ended in a 1-1 draw. The goal of Italy is marked by Massaro, a player of AC Milan in the 48-minute mark, while in Mexico by Bernal arrived 9 minutes later. Italy drew and finished with 4 points but strangely which appears to mean automatic qualification from a group that ended unlike any other had and has.

All four teams ended with four points a piece and strangely enough, even with the same goal difference, so it would correspond to who had scored more goals to decide the issues. Mexico finished first in the group and automatically qualified for the next round, and he had scored 3 goals, which put them head to Ireland and Italy, who had scored only 2 goals, while Norway only 1. Mexico, meanwhile, went beyond the first round for the first time in a tournament who were not accommodation.

Italy and Ireland were tied with 4 points and 2 goals a piece, but it was Ireland who came in second because it had expired us in our head to head game. Italy, however managed to reach third despite being equal on points with Norway on goal difference, simply because there scored two goals and had beaten Norway in our head to head meeting. Italy was third in the group, but not yet qualified for the next round, it is true that they were a win and a tie and Uruguay in 86 had done to the strength of two draws, but this was another World Cup. Italy could be eliminated, but only if they beat Cameroon Russia by three goals or more. All of which would have given Cameroon four points with 5 goals against 5 goals against and have toped the 2-2 goal difference from Italy.

The opportunity was there, a small, but every time I was there, for Italy to be expelled from the World Cup in the first round. Something that has not occurred since Germany 74. Russia, after all, had lost their first two games and had little to play for the pride of others then, although that was under the same circumstances four years earlier, he defeated Cameroon 4-0. Would they do it again or at least not loose for three goals, was the question in the minds of all the Italian fans, but this is not academic once destroyed Russia 6-1 Cameroon. In a game that set two records. The first Russian Salenko, who scored five goals and second Roger Milla, who at 42 became the oldest player ever to score a goal in World Cup history. In the note, I would add that these two records remain.

He had been an interesting match at Bar Napoli and had met two very nice people with the names of John and Gabriela, together with many others who want to see again and form the limits or at least until the end of the World Cup. One, an Italian American mistakenly believing that Roberto and Dino Baggio were brothers, I explained to him was not the case. However, it was after the match that was a real threat, as it was a camera man and a This reporter for RAI television in Italy, seeking an Italian supporter whose language skills went beyond one or two words or expressions that could not be televised. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and managed to get interviewed on television company RAI, is expected to be seen by my sister and other relatives in Italy.
